Come On Baby, Light My Fire…

6 February, 2012 (07:30) | Aliveness, approach to life, beliefs, Change Habits, criticism, personal growth, spark, thoughts | By: Amy Phillips-Gary

What does your inner fire feel like to you? It’s different for us all.

There are definite sensations in the body, mind and spirit.

My inner fire feels like wide awake, energized, excited about whatever I am doing, pumped up, full of ideas, fully alive and open to possibility. It might not last too long, but those fiery moments are intense and uplifting.

The whole notion of “inner fire” might initially seem trite or cliche, but it’s absolutely essential. Think about a life of dullness, boredom, apathy, no feeling and nonexistent drive.

“Help! I’m lost!”: 3 Keys to Find Your Way Back to Your True Self

28 May, 2010 (20:00) | Aliveness, approach to life, Breathing, change, Dare, Dissolving Barriers, Fulfillment, meditation | By: Amy Phillips-Gary

Through the peaks, valleys and sheer drop-offs of life, it can be easy to become lost.

I’m not talking about veering from the path that society or your family has set for you. I’m talking about getting disconnected and far far away from your true, authentic self.

This might be the you who you used to be. The person who knew what he or she wanted and went for it. The you who was clear, confident and self-aware.

Maybe you haven’t felt this way since you were a young child. Perhaps you’ve never ever felt in touch with the real you.

My Radical Experiment

7 May, 2010 (19:02) | Aliveness, Appreciate, appreciation, approach to life, Change Habits, choices, Dream, Eckhart Tolle, personal growth, present | By: Amy Phillips-Gary

I’ve heard before messages counseling us all to live in the present moment from wise ones such as Eckhart Tolle and others. These teachings make a lot of sense to me– but rarely do I truly do this for any length of time.

But, after a recent breathwork session led by our dear friends Paula and Christopher Easton, I decided to really put this idea into practice.

At the session, Christopher Easton reminded us to “respond in the present moment.” The very next day– still glowing from my breathwork experience– I began my radical experiment.

“Freedom’s in the state of mind…”

“Freedom ain’t a state like Maine or Virginia
Freedom ain’t across some county line
Freedom is a flame that burns within ya
Freedom’s in the state of mind”– Peter Udell, “Shenandoah”

There are days when I long for freedom.

I might feel chained to my computer on a warm Spring day. Or, maybe I’m craving travel to faraway places with no worries about the finances to pay for it, who will care for the pets, our home and if the rest of my family would enjoy the places I’d like to visit.

Why Feed Your Soul…and does it like chocolate?

*November is National Blog Posting Month. I’m going to mix it up a bit here at the Personal Growth Planet blog and try this (at least every weekday– can’t guarantee weekends.). So for November, you’ll find shorter daily blogs with weekly themes. Thanks for reading and, as always, I hope you are inspired!

My friend, Alissa Sorenson, shared a fascinating and heart-stirring account of one of her ancestors in her blog about All Souls Day. In this season of Halloween, Samhain, Dia de los Muertos and All Souls Day our attentions are drawn to the dead.

Is There Room for More BOOM in Your Life?

As we gear up for 4th of July picnics and fireworks, the news seems filled with the deaths of several famous folks.

On this celebratory time of the United States’ “birthday,” it’s an odd feeling for me to also be thinking about the passing on of people who were iconic as I grew up.

This amalgam of mourning and 4th of July revelry lead my thoughts to life itself. There are lots of unknowns and much we could choose to be fearful about.
